Lost Poem Series #1: Can you hear me?

(Journal Entry from October 2005; I was 15 years old.
Jump back into your teenage shoes of neglect and frustration.)

Can you hear me?

Just stop talking,
Stop interrupting,
Stop moving around-
Just sit down!

Close your eyes,
Take a deep breath,
I’m almost done.

Look at my face,
Open your ears,
YOU HAVEN’T WON!

Not yet- not today,
JUST LET ME FINISH!

Listen to my voice,
Watch my face change-
CAN YOU HEAR ME?

Understand these words,
Look at the consequences-
CAN YOU HEAR ME?

I keep moving my lips,
But the sound is unheard.

You stare at me blankly-
As if I stuttered.

My fingers keep trembling,
While steam shoots from my ears-
BUT YOU DON’T NOTICE.

You kind of smile at me,
As if I’m an idiot-
AS IF I DON’T NOTICE-
OH! BUT I NOTICED!

I have noticed the fact that-
You do not appreciate my words-
You do not appreciate ME!

All I need is for you to listen-
Be silent, just- listen.

So now,
CAN YOU HEAR ME?
